The Orlando Pride have a month to stew following a Friday night against Louisville FC.

Louisville won 2-0 in Kentucky to leave Orlando (8-1-4, 25 points) in second place in the table ahead of the five-week international break. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Orlando.

“Obviously disappointed with the result. It came down to two set pieces with a corner, which we take a lot of pride in defending corners and a penalty,” Orlando Pride head coach Seb Hines said after the match. “(We) had a proud moment for [Simone Jackson] and her family to get that first professional appearance and hopefully she can get many more.”

The Pride signed Jackson, 22, to a three-year contract on May 28 following a four-year collegiate career at the University of Southern California.

Jackson said Friday’s result is something the team can grow and learn from in the weeks ahead.

The 2024 NWSL Shield and NWSL Champions are among a four team pack, along with San Diego, Portland and Washington, that look to depose the Kansas CIty Current atop the table.

The Current (11-2-0, 33 points) beat Angel City FC 1-0 on Saturday night to win their sixth straight match.

Time away from the pitch

The Pride will be well represented during the continental championships that will be played during the NWSL break.

Goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse was called up to England’s EURO 2025 squad. She is expected to be a reserve keeper as the Lionesses try to retain their title.

Meanwhile, midfielder Angelina and the immortal Marta will represent Brazil at next month’s Copa América Femenina 2025. Brazil have won the Copa América Femenina four straight times; however, the gap is closing.

Meanwhile, Barbra Banda will have the opportunity to captain Zambia during the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
