Inter Miami won its second straight Major League Soccer match after its return from the Club World Cup on Monday night. Lionel Messi scored twice to give the Herons a 2-1 win over the New England Revolution.

The match was the fourth straight contest Messi scored at least a brace.

Messi has 14 goals in 15 MLS matches this year. He has produced 14 goals and seven assists in just 1,295 minutes, meaning he creates either a goal or an assist every 61 minutes.

Inter Miami (10-3-5, 35 points) have won four straight matches and are undefeated in their last five league games.

Inter Miami is seven points behind FC Cincinnati (13-5-3, 42 points) in the Supporters’ Shield race with three games in hand.

Monday may have also illustrated that Inter Miami’s elimination in the Club World Cup was not nearly the humiliation some may have thought. Paris Saint Germain blitzed Real Madrid 4-0 in the semifinals in New Jersey.

Over the last two months, PSG has beaten Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan by multiple goals. Inter Miami may not be at the caliber of any of those European giants, but they remain MLS’ biggest attraction and advertisement.
