Gulf Breeze tops Miami Lourdes for first title since 2001

Gulf Breeze won its first FHSAA girls soccer state championship in 22 years with its 4-1 win over Miami Lourdes in the FHSAA Class 6A state final.

Ava Matherne scored a hat trick and Ellie Pavey scored the Dolphins’ fourth goal of the game to seal the victory. Gulf Breeze (20-2-1) had lost its four previous appearances in the state final before its breakthrough.
