Florida State remains No. 1 in Division I women’s soccer poll

Flagler College is no longer the No. 1 team in the United Soccer Coaches Division II poll.

The Saints (5-0-0) are unbeaten in their last 32 regular season matches and thumped its two Peach Belt Conference opponents by an aggregate score of 9-1. But, that apparently was not good enough to retain the top spot.

The Saints are No. 2 in the fourth poll of the season.

Grand Valley State (8-0-0) overtook the Saints, presumably because of their wins over Parkside (2-5) and Purdue Northwest (1-6-1).

Flagler is one of three programs ranked in the top 25 of the women’s poll. Florida Tech (3-0-1) is No. 7 and West Florida (4-0-0) is No. 9.

Meanwhile, in the Division I poll, Florida State solidified its place as the No. 1 team in the country. The Seminoles (10-0-0) received 33 of 34 first place votes following a 5-0 win over Pittsburgh on Sept. 23 and a 3-0 road win over Louisville on Sept. 26.

Florida State is the only unbeaten and untied team in Division I women’s college soccer. However, their schedule will get much tougher in October.

Florida State travels to Clemson (7-3, 2-1) on Oct. 1, travels to No. 19 Virginia Tech (7-2-2, 1-0-2) on Oct. 15, travels to No. 5 North Carolina (8-1-1, 1-1-1) on Oct. 21 and squares off against No. 4 Duke (7-1-1, 1-1-1), in Durham, on Oct. 24.
