Vlatko Andonovski named 10th coach in program history

U.S. Soccer confirmed on on Monday, Oct. 28 the news that began to leak late last week: Vlatko Andonovski will be the next United States Women’s National Team manager.

The 43-year-old, who was born in the former Yugoslavia, moved to the United States in 2000 and is a two-time National Women’s Soccer League winner and league Coach of the Year

“First, I want to sincerely thank U.S. Soccer President Carlos Cordeiro, our Women’s National Team General Manager Kate Markgraf and U.S. Soccer Sporting Director Earnie Stewart for this opportunity,” Andonovski said in a statement released by U.S. Soccer. “It’s a huge honor and I’m very excited to get started with this group of players and staff as we work towards continued success for this program. All of the talented coaches and players that have come before have built a legendary tradition of excellence and I’m committed to working very hard to continue to move this program forward.”

Andonovski’s contract reportedly runs through the end of the 2023 Women’s World Cup. His first match will be Nov. 7 against Sweden in Columbus, Ohio. Andonovski and the USWNT will be in Florida to face Costa Rica in Jacksonville on Nov. 10.
