Ponte Vedra’s Dave Silberberg won his first statewide Coach of the Year award after winning his seventh FHSAA state championship this year. Silverberg led the Sharks to a 14-3-5 record. Ponte Vedra held its opponents to one goal in seven district, regional and state playoff matches.

Silverberg, who never played soccer growing up and did not start coaching until his daughters were playing the sport, has won seven state championships in his 20 years coaching varsity soccer in St. Johns County. Silverberg won state championships in 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2008 at Nease High School. When Ponte Vedra opened in the fall of 2008, Silverberg led the Sharks to titles in 2009, 2012 and this year.

Since the FHSAA started awarding girls soccer state championships in 1982, no coach has won more state championships at public schools than Silverberg.

Cardinal Gibbons head coach Margo Flack finished second in the Coach of the Year voting. St. Johns Country Day head caoch Mike Pickett, who led the Spartans to their 10th consecutive FHSAA state title, finished third. The 2020 Coach of the Year winner, St. Johns Bartram Trail’s Jen Rodriguez finished fourth.
